Description

The Schrade Frontier has a 5.25-inch black powder coated 1095HC steel drop point blade with a full tang at 10.25 inches overall, a black textured TPE handle, a lanyard hole and a 4-inch firestarter.

The firestarter is a ferrocerium rod that throws sparks in wet conditions where matches fail, and the carbon steel blade spine is what strikes it. A stainless blade would not. That pairing is the reason the Frontier ships as a set rather than a knife, and it is why 1095HC is the steel rather than something easier to maintain.

1095HC takes a very keen edge and strops back quickly, developing a patina that slows further rust once established. TPE is a thermoplastic elastomer, textured here so it grips when hands are wet or cold, and the full tang leaves no joint to loosen under batoning. Explore more Survival and Bushcraft.
