Description

The Ronstan D-SPLICER 2-4mm Four-Needle Splicing Kit is intended for small-diameter modern synthetic line where conventional fids are too bulky for clean pull-through splicing. Instead of pushing a conventional fid through the rope, the D-SPLICER works with a pull-through method that is especially useful on compact modern braid. Its double-needle arrangement grips the line being pulled, making it easier to draw a tail or cover through a tight section of rope. That approach is useful for soft shackles, tapered sheets, and other jobs where small high-tech line can be difficult to manipulate with ordinary tools.

The kit includes a machined alloy handle with an anchoring loop, four interchangeable needles in two sizes, and a storage tube. Ronstan specifies the supplied needles for line from 2 to 4mm, while the broader D-SPLICER range covers larger small-diameter line as well. The tools can be used to pull cover plaits into the core when building tapered sheets, which is a common job in performance running rigging. Keeping the needles together in the storage tube also protects the fine working ends when the kit is carried in a sailmaker's or rigger's tool bag.

  • Pull-through splicing method for small synthetic line
  • Double needle clamps the line being pulled
  • Useful for soft shackles and tapered sheets
  • Includes handle, four needles, and storage tube

Match the needle to the rope diameter and construction before beginning the splice, and follow the rope maker's bury and taper guidance for the finished assembly. The pull-through method works best when the path through the braid is opened cleanly rather than forced through packed fibers. Inspect the needle tips after use so a damaged edge does not snag expensive synthetic line on the next job. For more splicing tools and sailing rigging equipment, browse more Sailing Hardware.
