The Maxwell PM Solenoid Pack is a replacement for windlasses with a permanent magnet motor. PM motors need a different solenoid arrangement than wound-field motors, so a standard reversing pack is not a substitute. The pack switches the heavy motor current that the deck or helm switch cannot carry.
Solenoids wear from contact erosion and corrosion in damp anchor lockers. A windlass that only runs one way, clicks without turning or stops working intermittently often needs a new solenoid pack. Replacing the pack restores reliable operation.
Check your windlass manual or motor label to confirm you have a permanent magnet motor before ordering. Mount it in a dry spot as close to the windlass as practical, and use properly sized cable.
