Description

The First Watch RTB-50 is an emergency throw bag holding 50 feet of 3/8 inch polypropylene rope with reflective strands.

Polypropylene is the right rope for a throw bag because it floats. A sinking line reaches a person in the water and then drops out of their hands, which is the one thing a rescue line cannot do. The reflective strands are for the same reason a lifejacket has tape on it. Most people go in the water at dusk or after dark, and a line you cannot see is a line nobody grabs.

The bag is quick-drying nylon with mesh panels so it drains rather than holding water, which keeps the weight down for the next throw and stops the rope sitting wet. Fifty feet is the standard length for a throw bag, far enough to reach someone drifting off a transom but short enough to throw accurately. Explore more marine rescue gear.

  • 50 feet of 3/8 inch polypropylene rope
  • Polypropylene floats, so the line stays graspable
  • Reflective strands for low light
  • Mesh bag drains rather than holding water
