The Condor Scout Hatchet is 10.25 inches overall with a 4.5 inch 1045 high carbon head, a 2.625 inch cutting edge, an American hickory handle and a leather belt sheath.
At 10.25 inches this is a true scout hatchet, used one-handed with the hand often choked up near the head. It splits kindling and limbs branches rather than felling anything. The short handle is the design rather than a limitation, since a hatchet swung from the elbow needs control more than reach.
1045 is a medium-carbon steel, tough enough to take repeated impact without chipping and soft enough to be filed back sharp in the field rather than needing a stone.
