Blue Sea 8242 Shunt Adapter for DC Ammeters

The Blue Sea Systems 8242 Shunt Shifter adapts a DC digital ammeter installation for a shunt on the positive side of the circuit, working with the 8255 shunt.

Blue Sea's digital ammeters read from a shunt in the negative side of the circuit as standard, and that is not always where the shunt can go. Measuring alternator current is the usual case. The alternator's output is on the positive side, so reading it means putting the shunt there, and without this adapter the meter cannot interpret the signal.

The Shunt Shifter's electronics move the shunt's positive reference to the negative reference the meter expects. That leaves the rest of the monitoring system unchanged rather than requiring different meters or a redesigned installation.
