Description

The Balmar 60 Series 100A Saddle Mount Alternator has a K6 six-rib serpentine pulley, for 3.15-inch dual-foot Hitachi-style mounts.

Six ribs give a broader belt-contact area than a single-V pulley, which is what transfers the mechanical power a 100A alternator demands. Charging output has to come from somewhere, and at 100 amps the engine is putting real horsepower through that belt rather than a token amount.

A serpentine drive also runs quieter and with less vibration than an overworked V-belt. A belt at the edge of its capacity squeals, glazes and throws dust, and none of that improves with tensioning.

This version needs the engine already converted to serpentine, or a conversion kit fitted first. The dual deep-V version is the alternative where the existing V-belt drive is being kept, and isolated grounding applies to both. Explore more marine alternators.

  • Six ribs against a single V pulley
  • At 100A the engine puts real horsepower through the belt
  • A strained V-belt squeals, glazes and throws dust
  • Needs a serpentine drive already fitted
