Description
The Balmar 60 Series 100A Saddle Mount Alternator has a dual deep-V pulley, for 3.15-inch dual-foot Hitachi-style mounts.
Two V-belts rather than one is what lets a 100A alternator be driven without converting to serpentine. A single V-belt slips under sustained high output, and the dual pulley doubles the contact area without touching the crankshaft end of the drive.
That makes this the upgrade path for an engine already set up for twin belts. The serpentine versions need the whole drive converted, which is a larger job and needs the conversion kit for that specific engine.
A hundred amps supports faster recovery of a larger bank on a boat with refrigeration, lighting, communications and navigation electronics running. Those loads consume capacity steadily, and a standard alternator can spend a whole day's motoring without fully replacing what a night at anchor used. Explore more marine alternators.
- Two V-belts double the contact area
- A single belt slips under sustained output
- No crankshaft pulley change needed
- Serpentine needs the whole drive converted
