Description

The ARCO 1000A/50mV Shunt handles up to 1000 amps for battery monitors that read current through an external shunt.

A shunt keeps the heavy system current out of the monitor entirely, which is what makes accurate high-current measurement possible. The full current passes through a calibrated resistance, and the monitor reads the small voltage drop across it. Nothing at the display end ever sees more than millivolts.

The 1000A/50mV rating has to match what the monitor expects, since the ratio is how it converts millivolts back into amps. A monitor configured for a 500A/50mV shunt reading this one will report half the actual current, and the error is invisible because the numbers look plausible.

A thousand amps covers a large bank with an inverter and a high-output alternator on it. Shunts are normally installed in the negative side so every load and charge source passes through them, and anything wired around the shunt goes uncounted. Explore more alternator parts and accessories.

  • The heavy current never reaches the monitor
  • The display end sees only millivolts
  • Match the 1000A/50mV ratio to the monitor
  • Anything wired around the shunt goes uncounted
