Description

The ACR SM-3 is a SOLAS lifebuoy marker light giving 360 degree visibility to roughly 2 miles, activating automatically in the water.

Automatic activation is what makes a lifebuoy light work. A light that needs switching on relies on whoever threw the buoy remembering, or on the person in the water finding a switch in the dark. It also rights itself and floats upright in any condition, so the light points where it can be seen rather than into the water.

Runtime is over 40 hours at 86 degrees Fahrenheit and over 24 hours at 30 degrees, and output never falls below 3 candela across that whole period. That matters more than peak brightness. A light that fades through the night marks nothing by morning, and cold is when it fades fastest.

It runs on two user-replaceable AA lithium cells rather than being a sealed disposable unit, which is what most competing lifebuoy lights are. Approved under USCG, MED and SOLAS, it satisfies the self-igniting lifebuoy light requirement wherever those rules apply, and a mounting bracket is included. Explore more distress signals and safety lights.

  • Activates automatically and rights itself in the water
  • Never falls below 3 candela through 40 hours
  • User-replaceable AA lithium cells, not a sealed disposable
  • USCG, MED and SOLAS approved with a bracket included
