The Xantrex C-Series C40 is a 40A solid-state controller configurable for PV charging, DC load control or diversion control, on 12V, 24V or 48V.
Supporting 48V as well as 12V and 24V is what separates the C40 from the C60, which covers only the lower two. That matters for an electric propulsion or storage installation, where the higher voltage rules out most controllers of this type.
Diversion mode dumps excess current into a resistive load rather than disconnecting the source. That is how a wind or hydro generator gets regulated, since those cannot simply be open-circuited when the bank is full without risking overspeed.
Load control mode instead switches DC loads on battery voltage, acting as a low-voltage disconnect. PWM multi-stage charging covers the charging role, with optional temperature compensation as battery temperature changes. Explore more solar charge controllers.
