Description
The VETUS Type 15 zinc hull anode gives sacrificial cathodic protection for underwater metal components in saltwater or brackish-water environments. The zinc material is intended to corrode preferentially, helping protect more valuable submerged metal parts from galvanic corrosion when the anode is correctly installed and electrically bonded.
VETUS specifies high-grade zinc material meeting U.S. MIL-A-18001K requirements. Hull material does not eliminate the need for cathodic protection, so properly selected anodes can be important on steel, wood, fiberglass, and aluminum boats wherever submerged metal fittings require protection from galvanic activity.
Confirm that zinc is the appropriate anode material for the boat's water environment and verify Type 15 size, mounting, electrical continuity, and compatibility with the metals being protected. Install on a clean conductive surface as specified, inspect the anode regularly, and replace it before excessive material loss reduces its protective effectiveness.
- The zinc anode corrodes preferentially to help reduce galvanic attack on protected components.
- The material is intended for these marine environments.
- VETUS states compliance with U.S. MIL-A-18001K.
- Cathodic protection can be required regardless of whether the hull is metal, wood, fiberglass, or aluminum.
