Uflex UP28R Rear Mount Hydraulic Helm Pump

The Uflex UP28R is the rear-mount version of the UP28 helm pump, installing from behind the dash. It has the same 28 cc (1.7 cu. in.) displacement as the front-mount UP28FM. Inside are five pistons on a ball-bearing race with a cast iron rotor.

A lock valve keeps the steering from drifting, a relief valve guards against overpressure, and the 3/4-inch tapered stainless steel shaft accepts standard marine wheels. Adjustable 90-degree fittings for 3/8-inch hose come with it. A rear-mount helm is often the right choice when replacing an older rear-mount unit, since it can use the existing dash opening. Its corrosion-resistant housing holds up well behind open dashes on center consoles and bay boats, and the five-piston design gives smooth, even steering at every point in the wheel's rotation.

Fill the helm slowly with the recommended hydraulic oil and bleed the system until the steering feels firm in both directions. Recheck the oil level after the first few trips. The front-mount UP28FM and the UC128 cylinders it pairs with are in our hydraulic steering systems.
