WAAS is a correction signal broadcast from satellites that improves GPS accuracy from several meters to around a meter, which matters for navigating a channel rather than finding a coastline. Sixty-six channels means the receiver tracks more satellites at once, which gives a faster fix and holds it under a flybridge or through tree cover on a river.

NMEA 0183 in and out means it feeds position to a VHF for DSC distress calling as well as to a chartplotter, which is the safety function most boats fit one for.
