The Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara 2 Black Lockback (BY03PBK2) is a full-size work folder from Byrd, Spyderco's budget line made in China to Spyderco designs. It has a 3.75-inch 8Cr13MoV stainless blade with a satin finish and a plain edge. Closed, it measures about 4.75 inches, and it opens to 8.5 inches.
Byrd knives use an oval Byrd Hole instead of Spyderco's trademark Round Hole, but it opens just as easily with one thumb. The back lock holds the blade open until you press the rocker bar on the spine. A black FRN handle, short for fiberglass reinforced nylon, keeps the weight down and resists moisture and chemicals.
The four-position stainless clip lets you carry tip-up or tip-down on either side. It is a good knife for work sites, camp, and the boat when you do not want to risk an expensive blade. 8Cr13MoV is soft enough to sharpen quickly in the field. Other Byrd and Spyderco lockbacks are in our lockback knives.
