The Smith & Wesson Boot Knife has a 4.5-inch black stonewashed 8Cr13MoV stainless dagger blade with a full tang at 8.75 inches overall, a black textured G10 handle, a lanyard hole and a black leather belt sheath.

A dagger blade is sharpened on both sides and symmetrical around the centerline, which suits piercing but rules out placing a thumb on the spine for pressure. That is the trade the shape makes. Boot knives are built flat for the same reason they are built small: the whole package has to sit against a leg or inside a waistband without printing through clothing.
