The Shakespeare Style 399-1M 9.5-Foot VHF Antenna delivers 6dB gain in a compact package, built for boats that need the range and efficiency of a large antenna but simply don't have room to mount one. It shares its core electrical design with Shakespeare's standard Style 399-1, but adds a dedicated sleeve for mast mounting, opening up installation options a standard base-mount antenna can't match.

Inside, a collinear-phased 5/8-wave element design runs through two coaxial chokes specifically engineered to suppress radiation traveling back down the cable itself, a detail that keeps the antenna's actual radiation pattern clean and prevents that stray cable radiation from distorting reception or transmission. Brass and copper elements throughout keep conductivity, and therefore real-world performance, high.

Mast mounting uses an aluminum sleeve paired with the included 1-1/4" U-bolts, and a larger mast can also take this antenna via steel banding, purchased on its own. That flexibility makes this a practical choice for sailboats and other vessels where mast-mounting is the only realistic option for getting real antenna height without a dedicated base mount.
