Description
The Shakespeare Galaxy 5230 14-Foot VHF Antenna delivers 8dB of gain through what Shakespeare positions as the most effective 8dB antenna system on the market, a claim built on a larger signal capture area than competing designs of the same gain rating.
The antenna uses a 5/8-wave element mounted over a 1/2-wave dipole, a configuration that concentrates more of the radiated energy toward the horizon rather than wasting it skyward, which is exactly where a boat-to-boat or boat-to-shore signal actually needs to travel. The element material itself, brass paired with copper, keeps electrical conductivity high, translating into real-world range and cleaner signal quality compared to antennas built with cheaper, higher-resistance metals.
Construction runs two sections, a 94-inch base and a 74-inch tip, joined at a stainless steel ferrule threaded to Shakespeare's standard 1"-14 spec, compatible with the brand's Style 409-R or 410-R mounting kits. Unlike some antennas in the lineup, this one is DC grounded, a detail worth checking against your VHF radio and grounding setup before installation.
Two sections (94" base, 74" tip), 14' overall height. Includes 20 feet of RG-8/X cable with PL-259 connector. Backed by Shakespeare's 5-year limited warranty. Compatible mounts: Shakespeare Style 409-R or 410-R (sold separately).
