The Samlex SCC-1208L is a compact solar charge controller for small 12V battery systems that need automatic regulation between a solar panel and the battery bank. Its microcontroller manages the charging process through bulk, absorption, and float stages so the battery can recover capacity without remaining at a high charging voltage indefinitely. The controller is intended for flooded lead-acid and sealed AGM batteries and can manage a modest solar array used for remote, mobile, or off-grid power. It is a practical fit for small marine systems, remote monitoring equipment, and installations where simple automatic charging is preferred over a large programmable controller.

The charging circuit uses series-type pulse-width modulation to regulate panel power efficiently. MOSFET reverse-current blocking prevents the battery from discharging back through the solar panel at night, reducing unnecessary energy loss. The controller also provides protection against overload, excessive temperature, battery overvoltage or undervoltage, and reversed polarity. An automatic lighting function can switch a connected load on after dark and off again during daylight.

The enclosure is fully sealed for splash resistance and is designed to operate across a wide temperature range. At roughly 3.8 x 1.8 x 1.0 in and about 0.28 lb, the controller can be mounted in small electrical spaces without consuming much room. The solar array must still be kept within the controller’s voltage and current limits because the protection circuitry is not a substitute for correct system sizing. Install the controller close enough to the battery to limit cable loss while keeping the solar and battery wiring clearly separated and correctly polarized.
