Ronstan 30QT QuickTrim Self-Tailing Orbit Winch

The Ronstan 30QT QuickTrim Self-Tailing Orbit Winch is built for sailors who want a two-speed self-tailing winch with QuickTrim control for easing line without taking it out of the self-tailer. QuickTrim allows the sailor to ease the loaded line without removing the winch handle or pulling the sheet out of the self-tailer. A small counter-clockwise turn of the self-tailing cover lets the mechanism act like a sheave while the rope is eased, then it locks again when the cover returns. That makes fine sail-trim changes quicker and keeps both the line and handle under better control during active maneuvers.

The machined aluminum drum uses Power Ribs to create controlled grip with fewer wraps while maintaining a non-abrasive surface for the running rigging. Hard-anodized aluminum is used for the drum and center stem, with Grade 316 stainless shaft and pawls, Grade 2205 axle pins, and aluminum-bronze gears. The Orbit design can be stripped for service without tools, so cleaning and inspection do not depend on having a full tool kit on deck. The self-tailing arm indexes into eight positions at 45-degree intervals, making it easier to direct the working tail toward the preferred crew position.

The two-speed gearing provides 1.4:1 and 5.2:1 gear ratios, with power ratios of 8.3:1 and 30.2:1. Ronstan lists a maximum pulling load of 700kg, a 136mm base, an 86mm drum, and a 166mm overall height. The self-tailer is intended for 7 to 12mm line, so the chosen sheet should fall within that range and enter the drum at the correct height.
