Icom IC-M85UL 5W Intrinsically Safe VHF Radio

The Icom IC-M85UL 5W Intrinsically Safe VHF Radio is one of the smallest, lightest and toughest handhelds made, with an intrinsically safe certification for hazardous locations. With the BP292UL battery and HM184UL mic, it meets ANSI/TIA-4950-A and ANSI/UL 121201 for Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D, Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F and G, and Class III, T3C. It is also non-incendive for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C and D.

It is built to MIL-STD 810 and rated IP67, so it survives a drop in the water. MOB Alarm, Man Down and Lone Worker functions sound an automatic emergency alarm when triggered. A tilted 20-position rotary selector and volume knob are easy to reach, and the display shows power, VOX, battery, scan and weather icons.

Besides marine channels, it covers 136 to 174 MHz land mobile with up to 100 programmable channels at 2 watts, and land mobile use requires the proper license. Marine transmit power is 5, 3 or 1 watt, and a multi-function button switches between marine and land mobile. Unlike the standard IC-M85, this UL version does not include the voice scrambler. Priority scan, Dual and Tri-Watch for Channel 16, a favorite channel list, weather channels, internal VOX and a self-check that monitors internal temperature and battery voltage are built in. Other models are in our handheld VHF radios section.
