Higonokami Woody VG10 Folder with Blue Gray Wood Handle

The Higonokami Woody has a 3-inch VG-10 stainless blade in a blue-gray finger grooved wood handle with a lanyard hole, closing to 4.25 inches, opened by extended tang.

The Woody departs from the bare folded-steel handle Higonokami is known for, adding shaped wood scales with finger grooves molded into the grip so the hand locates itself the same way each time. VG-10 is the other departure. Traditional Higonokami blades run high carbon steel, and VG-10 trades some of that keenness for corrosion resistance that suits a knife carried in a pocket without much care.

The extended tang, called the chikiri, sticks out past the pivot and is pressed with the thumb to hold the blade open, since there is no lock or spring. Higonokami knives have been made in Miki, Japan since the 1890s to essentially the same design. Explore more Traditional Knives.
