Description

The Higonokami Triple Layer has a 2.63-inch SK-5 carbon steel blade with a folded stainless handle, a friction folder opened by its extended tang. Made in Japan.

Higonokami knives have been made in Miki since the 1890s, and the design has not changed: a blade, a folded brass or steel handle, and a lever called the chikiri that sticks out past the pivot. There is no lock and no spring. The thumb presses the lever against the handle to hold the blade open. Triple layer means the blade is laminated, a hard SK-5 carbon core forged between softer stainless outers. The core takes and holds a keen edge while the outer layers absorb shock and protect against rust.

It is a working knife rather than a collectible, still carried in Japan the way a pocketknife has always been. Explore more Traditional Knives.

  • Laminated blade, hard SK-5 core between softer outers
  • Friction folder with no lock or spring
  • Extended chikiri lever holds the blade open by thumb
  • Made in Miki, Japan
