Description

The Fireboy-Xintex gasoline and propane sensor is a replacement element for P series detection systems, connecting through quick-disconnect connectors.

Placement decides whether this works at all. Propane and gasoline vapor are heavier than air and collect low, so the sensor goes near the floor beside the appliance. Mounted on a bulkhead at eye level it will not see a leak until the compartment has filled, which is far too late to be useful.

Keep it clear of areas where cleaning, mopping or a stray boot will reach it, and never use harsh chemicals on the sensor itself. Solvents and cleaners poison the element, and a poisoned sensor fails quietly rather than announcing itself. That is worth knowing before anyone tidies the bilge.

As a replacement element it lets a worn or damaged sensor be swapped without replacing the control head. Mounting uses appropriate #8 hardware with the supplied rubber gasket between the sensor and the surface. The extension cable is sold separately. Explore more gas and carbon monoxide detectors.

  • Mount near the floor beside the appliance
  • At eye level it sees a leak far too late
  • Cleaning chemicals poison the element
  • A poisoned sensor fails without warning
