The Davis AeroCone Rain Collector with Flat Base has an aerodynamic contoured collector and a locking debris screen.

Wind is the largest source of error in rain measurement. Air flowing over a blunt-edged gauge forms eddies that carry droplets past the opening, so the gauge under-reads in exactly the conditions that matter. The AeroCone's contours streamline that airflow so more of the rain actually falling reaches the funnel.

A locking debris screen keeps leaves and insects out of the mechanism, which is the usual reason a tipping bucket stops reporting mid-season. This is the flat-base version, for mounting on its own rather than replacing the collector on a Vantage Pro2 sensor suite, so it suits a standalone gauge or a second collector at another location.
