The Cold Steel Kobun has a 5.5-inch black finish AUS-8A stainless tanto blade at 9.88 inches overall, an OD green Kray-Ex handle, a lanyard hole and a black Secure-Ex belt sheath.

Kobun means follower or apprentice in Japanese, and the knife is Cold Steel's plain-built tanto: no guard, no bolsters, just a blade and a molded handle. The tanto puts a reinforced corner where a curved belly would run, concentrating force at the front for piercing at the cost of a sweeping slice.

AUS-8A is sub-zero quenched, a heat treatment converting more of the steel to hard martensite, which raises edge holding without leaving it brittle.
