Thermal-plasticized rubber is the distinction from the standard black roller. It stays flexible in cold and resists the hardening and cracking that ordinary rubber suffers after years of sun and immersion. A hardened roller stops deforming under the hull, which is when it starts marking gelcoat rather than supporting it.
