Sixty inches is the tall option, and post height is chosen by how deep the trailer goes under water at your ramp. A post that submerges with the trailer defeats the purpose. On a steep ramp or with a deep-draft boat, the extra height over a 40 inch post is what keeps the marker visible.

Guide-ons give a visual reference for backing and loading evenly, which is what prevents the expensive damage that comes from loading a boat off-center.
