Description
The C. Sherman Johnson Anchor Chain Tensioner is designed to hold an anchor securely in the bow roller channel while the boat is underway. By taking up slack at the roller, it helps keep the anchor from moving and can free the bow cleat for other lines. The single-hook arrangement is intended as a securing and stowage device rather than as a replacement for the rode connection while the boat is anchored. That distinction makes it useful for passage preparation without asking the fitting to carry loads it was not designed to handle.
The tensioner has an overall length of 12 in and uses a threaded hook with 1-1/2 in of adjustment. That adjustment helps the installer take up the chain securely despite differences in bow-roller geometry and anchor position. The hook engages the chain while the opposite end is set to maintain firm pressure on the anchor in its stored position. Once adjusted, the assembly can be used as part of the normal process of securing the bow before getting underway.
- Single-hook layout secures an anchor in the bow roller
- 12 in overall length
- Threaded hook provides 1-1/2 in of installation adjustment
- Frees the bow cleat for other lines while the anchor is stowed
This tensioner should not be used to carry the working load of the anchor rode while the vessel is anchored. Keep the primary anchoring system properly secured and use the tensioner only for the stowage function described by the manufacturer.
