Description

The C.E. Smith White Aluminum Vertical Rod Holder clamps to 1-5/16 inch upright tubing, with a welded gimbal bar and 1-5/8 inch flared bore.

The welded gimbal bar is what stops a rod turning in the holder under load. A gimbal-butt rod has a notch that engages the bar, so the reel stays upright while a fish pulls. Without it the rod rotates and the reel ends up sideways or underneath.

A flared bore at 1-5/8 inch guides the butt in without needing the rod lined up precisely. That matters when a rod is being dropped in one-handed while something is already on the other line.

This is the vertical-rail version, sized for upright tubing rather than horizontal rails. It shares the 3/8 inch blade, tapered rod liner and rod security hole with the horizontal model, in white powder coat over anodized aluminum. Explore more rod holders.

  • The gimbal bar stops a rod turning under load
  • Without it the reel ends up sideways
  • A flared bore guides the butt in one-handed
  • Vertical tubing, not horizontal rails
