The Browning Outdoorsman Compact Hatchet is 8.75 inches overall with a 3.75 inch brushed 5Cr13MoV stainless head, a full tang, a finger-grooved polymer handle and a nylon belt sheath.

At 8.75 inches this is a one-handed hatchet, closer to a heavy knife than a felling axe, and it suits splitting kindling and limbing rather than felling anything. Full tang means the steel runs the whole length rather than the head being wedged onto a haft, so there is no joint that can loosen and nothing to rehang.

Stainless rather than carbon steel is unusual on an axe, and it trades some edge retention for not rusting in a wet pack or a boat.
