Description

The BPS Savage has a 4.75-inch satin 1066 carbon steel drop point blade over a full extended tang at 9.75 inches overall, an oiled walnut handle, a lanyard hole and a black leather belt sheath.

Oiled rather than varnished is the detail worth knowing. Oil soaks into the wood and can be reapplied at home when the handle dries out, where a varnish seals the surface and has to be stripped and redone once it chips. Walnut is dense enough to take that treatment well and dampens vibration better than any synthetic.

1066 carbon steel takes a very keen edge and strops back quickly, developing a patina that slows further rust once established. The extended tang runs to the butt so the pommel can take a strike without loading the handle scales. Explore more Survival and Bushcraft.
