The Balmar Digital Duo Charge DDC-12/24 charges a starting battery from the house-bank charging system without a diode isolator or manual switch.

It monitors house-bank voltage and starts passing current once that voltage rises above a configured threshold. Around 13.2V on a 12V system or 26.4V on 24V indicates the house bank is being charged rather than merely sitting, so the starter only receives current when there is real surplus available.

That is a better arrangement than a diode isolator, which drops around 0.7 volts and leaves both banks slightly undercharged permanently. It also avoids leaving the banks continuously paralleled, which lets house loads drain the starting battery overnight.
