A composite pole flexes rather than snapping, which is the point on a boat that goes under low branches. Anglers and hunters working a shoreline hit overhanging cover constantly, and an aluminum pole bends permanently or breaks where a composite one springs back.
The head tilts 15 degrees fore or aft, which matters because a pole light is only compliant if it shows level. A boat that sits bow-down at rest tips a fixed pole with it, and the adjustment corrects for that rather than accepting an angled beam.
