The spring design is what makes this a hanger rather than a rack. Rod tips push into a sprung slot that closes behind them, so rods stay put through a rough ride rather than lifting out. A rack that only cradles rods works in a marina and fails offshore, which is where most rod damage actually happens.

Polyethylene racks are UV stabilized, so they hold their color and do not go chalky and brittle after a couple of seasons in the sun.
