The SOG Folding Saw closes to 9.5 inches with an 8.25 inch high carbon stainless blade, TPR handles, a back safety lock and a nylon sheath.
A back safety lock is what separates a working saw from a dangerous one. Saw teeth are pulled toward the user under load, and a folding saw that closes mid-stroke does so onto the hand driving it. The lock holds the blade open positively rather than relying on friction.
High carbon stainless is a compromise chosen deliberately here. Carbon holds a tooth set better, stainless resists the rust a damp blade folded into a handle would otherwise develop.
