Water entering a compatible pitot tube creates pressure that travels through flexible tubing to the Bourdon-tube movement inside the speedometer head. The mechanical movement converts that pressure into pointer movement on the speed scale. A pitot tube is sold separately, so the installation requires an existing compatible pickup or a separately sourced pitot assembly.

The 4-inch gauge installs in an approximately 3.4-inch dash opening and uses dual imperial and metric scale references.
