Trailer hubs fail from water rather than mileage. A hot hub dropped into cold ramp water draws water past the seal, and the bearings rust from the inside without any warning at the roadside. Replacing the whole hub rather than repacking bearings is faster and removes the guesswork about what condition the races are in.
