Description

The Barton Marine Triple-Line DO 550 Rope Clutch manages three control lines on cruising or racing sailboats while keeping the cockpit layout organized. Its true clutch mechanism lets a line be adjusted through the unit while the handle remains in the locked position, with minimal unwanted slip. Release under load is designed to be positive and low-effort, and the handle is shaped for a secure grip with wet or cold hands. The clutch uses lightweight, impact-resistant molded components with anodized aluminum cams and bases for long service in a saltwater environment.

Manufactured from modern lightweight materials, the DO 550 molded parts are from high-grade plastics that are strong, light, and impact-resistant. Cams and bases are from marine grade aluminum, anodized for long life in the harsh marine environment. Release under load is positive and requires little effort. The mechanism’s opening and closing action is precise and easy to operate, even with cold, wet hands. A positive handle lock in the closed position is also featured. The clutch’s cam and base, manufactured from high grade extruded aluminum, feature a specially tempered tooth design which allows for maximum grip with minimal slippage, while being kind to your lines.

  • True clutch action permits controlled line adjustment while locked
  • Positive release is designed to work under load
  • Stainless rope fairleads reduce wear at line entry and exit
  • Bolt-together construction simplifies servicing

For the Triple-Line DO 550 Rope Clutch, for best performance, the line should lead straight through the clutch so the side plates are not carrying unnecessary side load. Barton Marine recommends positioning the clutch about 1 ft forward of the winch, using bolt-through fasteners with suitable sealant and a deck organizer where needed for alignment.
