Description
The ARCO Zeus A275L 3.15-Inch Alternator has an isolated ground and a terminal block, in a high-output 12V configuration.
Isolated ground is the specification that matters most here, and it is required rather than preferred on some installations. A conventionally grounded alternator returns current through the engine block and the boat's bonding. Isolating the ground keeps that current in its own cable, which is what stops stray current corrosion on a metal hull or a boat with sensitive electronics.
A terminal block rather than studs changes how the output cable connects, so the termination has to suit it. Lugs sized for a stud will not fit a block, and that is a discovery best made before the alternator is on the engine.
The 3.15-inch mounting is the dimension that has to match the engine bracket. Thermal management uses heat-shedding E-Coat or Cerakote, an external rectifier and dual cooling fans to hold output under sustained load. Explore more marine alternators.
- Isolated ground keeps return current in its own cable
- Required on a metal hull or with sensitive electronics
- Terminal block, not studs: lugs must suit it
- 3.15-inch mounting must match the bracket
