The ARCO Zeus A275L Vortec Alternator with Terminal Block is externally regulated, for GM pad-mount marine engines.

Externally regulated means the regulator is a separate component rather than built into the alternator. That is deliberate on a high-output unit. An external regulator can be programmed for the battery chemistry and adjusted as the bank changes, where an internal one applies whatever profile it was built with.

It also means the regulator has to be ordered and wired alongside the alternator, since one is not supplied here. The version of the same alternator that includes a regulator is the alternative, and buying this one without allowing for a regulator leaves an alternator that will not charge.

Vortec pad mounting suits GM marine engines specifically, so the engine determines the fitment. Heat-shedding E-Coat or Cerakote finishes, an external rectifier and dual cooling fans hold output 8 to 20 percent cooler than incumbent units under load. Explore more marine alternators.
