ARCO Volvo Penta Oildyne Pump Tilt Trim Motor

The ARCO 6232 is a replacement tilt and trim motor for late-model Volvo Penta sterndrives with an Oildyne pump. It uses a 2-wire connection. ARCO lists it as a replacement for Volvo 3151278, 3858071, and 854525-3. Oildyne pumps are used on many Volvo Penta sterndrives to raise and lower the drive and to trim it while underway.

Sierra 18-6805 and 18-6817 and Quicksilver 8M6007551 and 8M6007555 are also listed as equivalents. Oildyne pumps were used on more than one brand of sterndrive, and the MerCruiser version takes a different motor, so confirm your drive is a Volvo Penta before ordering. The Volvo part number on the old motor or pump is the best confirmation. Take a photo of the wiring before disconnecting it so the new motor goes back exactly the same way.

A failing motor often shows up as slow trim, trim that stops partway, or a motor that hums without moving the drive. Rule out low fluid and a stuck relay first, since both cost far less to fix than a new motor. Disconnect the battery, clean the terminals, and test the drive through its full range after installing.
