ARCO Mercury 2004-2018 Replacement Ignition Coil

The ARCO IG005 is a replacement ignition coil for Mercury outboards built from 2004 through 2018. It covers a wide span of power, from the 75 and 80 HP models up through 400 HP. It replaces Mercury 339-880615T01, with Sierra 18-5154 and CDI Electronics 184-0002 listed as equivalents. Because so many engines in this range use the same coil, it is a practical spare to carry on board for longer trips.

That span takes in a large share of Mercury's lineup from those years, which makes this one of the most common coils for Mercury owners to need. A coil that is breaking down may cause a misfire, a fault code, or a loss of top-end power. Checking the coil part number on the engine is the surest way to confirm this is the right one. On multi-cylinder engines, a diagnostic scan or a swap test between cylinders will point you to the coil that has failed.

Pull the coil connector gently by its body, not the wires, and look over the terminals for corrosion before installing the new coil. Use dielectric grease on the connection if the service manual calls for it. Run the engine afterward and confirm that the misfire or fault has cleared.
