ARCO MerCruiser Conventional Ignition Coil

The ARCO replacement ignition coil is intended for MerCruiser four-cylinder, V6, and V8 engines using conventional ignition. The supplier also notes use in some outboard applications and specifies that the installation requires an external resistor. That resistor requirement is an important part of the ignition-system design and should not be omitted during replacement. This coil is suited to service work where the existing engine uses the same conventional coil arrangement.

Inspect the external resistor, primary wiring, coil lead, grounds, and distributor connections while replacing the coil. A failed resistor or high-resistance terminal can cause symptoms similar to a weak coil and can also affect the replacement part. ARCO lists 12-month parts-and-labor warranty protection for this component. After installation, check starting, idle quality, and ignition performance under load to confirm the complete circuit is working correctly.
