Description

The Ancor Black 2/0 AWG Battery Cable is tinned copper with Type 3 ultra-flexible stranding, exceeding UL 1426 and ABYC requirements.

Black is the traditional negative color, though ABYC now prefers yellow for DC negative, and Ancor supplies both. The reason for the change is that black is also used for AC hot in some contexts, and a boat carrying both systems benefits from colors that cannot be confused.

Where an existing installation is wired in black negative, matching it is usually better than mixing conventions partway through. A boat with both black and yellow negatives is harder to work on than one consistently wired either way.

Tinned copper strands resist corrosion and electrolysis in saltwater and damp environments, where bare copper wicks moisture inside the insulation. Type 3 ultra-flexible construction makes large cable easier to bend and route, with premium vinyl insulation rated 600V, 105°C dry and 75°C wet. Explore more battery cable.

  • Black is traditional negative, yellow is the ABYC preference
  • Black is also AC hot in some contexts
  • Match an existing installation rather than mixing
  • Tinned copper against corrosion and electrolysis
