Olive drab across face and band is a field-watch convention rather than a style choice. A bright dial catches light and gives away position, and OD does not. Luminous hands with stainless markers keep it readable at night without a light, which is the other half of that thinking.
A nylon band is the practical choice over leather or a bracelet. It dries fast, survives being soaked repeatedly, and if a spring bar fails the watch stays on the wrist rather than dropping.
