A festoon bulb has a contact at each end rather than a base, and it drops into a sprung holder found in most older marine dome and courtesy fittings. Replacing filament festoons with LED is the cheapest lighting upgrade on a boat, since the fixtures stay and only the bulbs change.
A 360 degree beam angle is what a festoon needs, since these sit inside a diffuser and light it evenly rather than pointing one way.
