Description

The Ronstan Series 40 Fiddle Becket Ball Bearing Block is built for compact purchase systems that need low friction, a dedicated standing-end attachment, and an integrated cleat. The fiddle geometry keeps the tackle narrower than two equally sized sheaves, which helps when space around a mainsheet or vang purchase is limited. A removable becket pin lets the line be spliced before final assembly, and the multi-position cleat arm can be set to suit the crew's normal release angle. Ronstan also lists the block for fine-tune mainsheets, outhauls, cunninghams, checkstays, genoa lead pullers, and traveler controls on larger boats.

The ball-bearing system is intended to reduce friction during frequent trimming rather than relying only on a plain sheave running on a pin. Acetal ball bearings carry the sheave, while corrosion-resistant hardware supports the primary load path. That combination is well suited to control lines that are adjusted often and to purchase systems where excess friction quickly becomes noticeable. Access around the cheeks also makes routine bearing inspection and rinsing less awkward after hard use. The becket and cleat turn that low-friction bearing package into a more complete purchase-system component rather than a simple turning block.

  • Low friction Acetal or Torlon bearing system
  • Cheek cut-outs for easy bearing maintenance
  • Captive Lock universal head
  • Slotted pin shackle eliminates fouled lines

Plan the reeving, becket connection, and cleat position together before the tackle is fully tensioned. The ball-bearing sheaves work best when the rope enters squarely, while the removable becket pin gives the installer flexibility to complete a splice before final assembly. After sailing, rinse the bearing area and verify that the adjustable cleat arm has not shifted from the intended release angle.
