Description

The Raritan 12V Smart Macerator Control Module monitors the motor and pump to prevent dry running and overload.

The shutdown logic is specific rather than approximate. If the pump fails to prime within 7 seconds, or runs dry for 5 seconds, the control cuts it. Dry running is what destroys a macerator, since the impeller depends on the liquid passing through it for cooling and lubrication. Seven seconds is about how long that takes to matter.

Resetting means switching the pump off and on again. The control's own power does not need to be cut, so there is nothing to reach behind a panel for. That is a real convenience on a fitting usually installed somewhere awkward.

With power left on to the control, it jogs the macerator for a few milliseconds periodically. That keeps the impeller from taking a set in one position, which is what happens to a rubber impeller left compressed against the housing for a season and why some pumps never restart in spring. Explore more marine toilets and sanitation systems.

  • Cuts at 7 seconds without prime or 5 running dry
  • Dry running removes the impeller's cooling and lubrication
  • Resets by cycling the pump, not the control
  • Jogs periodically so the impeller does not take a set
