The Marbles Match Safe is 2.63 inches of waterproof stainless steel, reproduced from an original 1900 patent.
Matches are useless wet, and that is the whole reason a match safe exists. A sealed metal tube keeps them dry through rain, a river crossing or a soaked pack, which is when a fire matters most. The design dates to a 1900 patent and has not needed changing, because the problem has not changed either.
Stainless will not rust shut the way a plated steel tube can after years in a pack, and the seal is the part that has to keep working. At 2.63 inches it takes standard matches and fits a pocket, a survival tin or a lanyard. Matches are not included. Explore more camp accessories.
